EM Cosmetics Shade Play Lip Color Mixing Palette Review

Hello hello! This is Shifty here on this blog post, if you have watched my video on the EM Cosmetics Shade Play Lip Color Mixing Palette review, I'm sorry if it did not have as much information as you might have wished it would have had. However, hopefully this blog post will help you out further since you are able to look at the pictures and read what I have to say about them, allowing you to just sit there and contemplate whether or not you actually want to purchase these products. All of the photos are unfiltered and taken in natural light.
I own only 2 of the palettes--Mix it Up Reds and Mix it Up Pinks-- therefore, if you would like to specifically be reviews on the other colors, I recommend you look around for other reviews or the makeup product website, which I have a link to further on in this blog.

Mix It Up Pinks
[Pictures are in order 1-6]

                               1

This shade has a matte texture and also has a balmy moisturizing feel. Both the color and texture have a thick feel and application but it still has a lightweight feel once it is on the lips. It is a bold color with a slight purple tint in it.

This texture felt matte and I was not really a fan of it because I have dry lips. It doesn't really show up that matte but when I put it on it felt dry and not shiny nor balmy at all. You would definitely need a lip balm base. It is a pale pink color, as seen in the color to the right, and for the picture I had to apply several layers.

 3.
A light, pale, pink color that comes out sheer and a little sparkly. This is a glossy shade and it does have that light sticky glossy feel. However, I find it to be nice as it is not an overpowering color and looks natural.

4.
This is certainly a glossy shade and definitely one that I enjoy applying because its easy to apply, moisturizes my lips, and its color easily shows up. It is a deep vibrant pink with a purple opaqueness to it. I would consider this the most daring shade because it is a deep color yet still bright and glossy. As a mix of purple and pink this is a very nice magenta type shade.
  5.
Before this review, I never used this shade before and I was surprised that it had a buttery balmy feeling when I was applying it. It is kind of matte, a pale pink color, and applied rather smoothly.

6.
Another glossy type shade that has no sparkles and similar to #2. However, the color comes up more solid and it's more pale and translucent. It also has that light sticky glossy feeling

 Mix It Up Reds
[Pictures are in order 1-6]

1                            This shade has a more matte appearance than it looks yet a creamy texture that is also balmy. You may also need to apple a couple coats but it comes out to a lovely red that did not dry my lips out (I often have dry lips), however, I still recommend a lip balm base beneath it.

I found this type of lip color to be a creamy, lip balm thick substance that went on smooth yet had a glossy sheen to it. I found it to be similar to a glossy berry red or a deep raspberry colored tint to my lips.
 3
A light orange color, it came out glossy, as well as sparkly. It felt moisturizing and was quite natural looking even though at the beginning, I was unsure because I have never used an lip color that was orange before, other than lip balms. I like how even though it is lightly glossy, it still had that natural pink color.
 4
This color was not super glossy and I found it to be more of a coral red as it as that orange tint to it. It tends to be more on the bright end but not like neon.
 5.
This color is glossy, and still natural looking like #3, yet more of a deeper color red. I was surprised because the color looked like it would be a deep dark red. This applies easily and like most of the glosses, it felt like it was moisturizing my lips a little.
 6.
Slightly creamy and not bad for a color that came out to a matte like texture. As it was slightly creamy, it had that balmy feel to it, and was neither sheer or glossy. Definitely a brighter red

Pros:

  • Slim compact case, good for travel
  • Magnetic, so it's easy to open and close
  • Comes with a small lip color applying brush
  • Very nice large mirror that takes up the entire inside top half of the compact
  • A variety of 6 different shades that have different textures
  • You can mix and match the colors to create your own unique shade
  • There is an empty palette spot for mixing colors
  • The colors come out nice in the photos, although I tend to go for dark or bright lip colors for myself
  • Lip color is long lasting, however, I admit I never really tried a lot of these colors until this review because I just stayed with what I liked and didn't feel adventurous haha
Cons:
  • I recommend wearing a lip balm for the shades that do not appear shiny or glossy, especially for the ones that will appear matte
  • Some of the shades you need to apply several times because you do not get enough color
  • The shades may appear deceptive like #3 in the Mix it Up Reds but I really don't find this too surprising because all makeup colors commonly come out in a way you didn't imagine them to for better or for worse
  • 28$ is expensive however I believe that it is worth it, and the website often has sales that can you be notified about by signing up by email or following them on Instagram

Overall, I recommend this lip product because there are palettes in all different categories of color. For me, it was specifically in the color categories of Pink and Red, as I had those palettes. These palettes really do live up to their name because you can get more variety of colors by mixing them around until you achieve a color with a texture you like.
For my signature lip color (you can discover by watching my review video on this product on YouTube) I mix several different shades, using a glossy shade because it gives that miniaturization and slight shine to my lips so that they're a solid deep, slightly sheer red.
What I mean by moisturizing in this review is that I don't think it seriously moisturizes your lips like lip balm is made to do, however, I believe it does a little--the reason being is that if my lips are little dry before I apply a glossy color, I am able to more my lips easier without them hurting or feeling like they're going to crack, which is different from that matte that gives my lips a more dry and tight feel.
